We understand that if you’re new to custom home construction (and even if you’re not), you will have lots of questions about how the process works. At Choice Builders, we follow the typical steps to design and build our clients’ homes, but how we work is different: At every step, we prioritize honesty and transparency. We believe this approach provides everyone involved with the best experience possible.

5 Steps to Your Dream

Our five-step process is easy, clear and effective. And it’s posted online in our secure online portal for you to reference at any time. You can look forward to working together with our team to create the home you’re dreaming of, staying within your budget and sticking to the timeline we’ve all agreed on.

Initial Consultation

This complimentary 60- to 90-minute meeting is the time for us to discuss the finer details of your project, including:

  • Your budget.
  • Your desired timeframe.
  • Design options.
  • Your lifestyle and preferences.

If you decide to partner with us for your home, you’ll sign a pre-construction agreement.

Design

One of the most exciting steps of your project is creating your home’s design. We work with you to develop detailed plans based on information from your initial consultation and other follow-on meetings.

It’s wise to take your time during this step. Think through your options and how the house will fit your day-to-day activities. Remember: It’s far easier to make changes on paper than on the construction site.

Depending on the complexity of your home and whether you know exactly what you want or would like us to help you figure it out, this step can take 30 to 90 days. During this time, you’ll work with our designers, or an architect or designer you’ve already selected.

If your project requires the services of additional professionals, such as a geotechnical engineer or civil engineer, we arrange them for you.

This is the time to choose the products and materials for your home. Our team guides you throughout this process, writes the project specifications and begins to establish the project budget.

When we all agree that design and budget are just right, we develop the permit-ready construction drawings, draft a project agreement and outline the timeline for your home.

Pre-Production

With the construction agreement signed, it’s time to double-check all the details. During this phase, we make any last-minute design adjustments, help you with product selections and place any special orders.

Don’t worry about being overwhelmed in this phase. We guide you so you can feel confident in your decisions. All the selections are posted in the online portal so everyone can see them and you won’t need to worry about forgetting what you’ve chosen.

During this step, we work closely with your bank and share any needed documents with them. We also take care of obtaining and tracking all permits, so you don’t need to worry about that either.

Finally, we prepare the site for your new home and get ready to break ground!

Construction

It’s time to make your vision real! Once all the selections are scheduled, we can start the construction process. You can be confident that we complete every task the right way the first time and never take shortcuts just to get your project completed faster.

Throughout this phase, we work closely with you and communicate regularly by phone and through our client portal. You’ll have 24/7 access to progress photos, job logs, schedule details and budget tracking.

Communication is key to success: We are always available to guide you through the process and review any questions or concerns. We make sure you’re informed so your project turns out exactly as you envisioned it.

Of course, we manage every aspect of your project, so you’re free to focus on living your life.

Post Production

When the construction work is finished, we stay with you to ensure all the documentation and warranties are in order.

In this step, we schedule and manage any final inspections and complete a final walk-through to make sure we got all of it right.

We enjoy forming lasting relationships with our clients, so we offer follow-up visits to give you the peace of mind that we can address any additional needs or concerns you may have with your home.

All our work comes with manufacturers’ warranties, as well as our industry-leading, 1/10-year structural warranty. This warranty covers everything inside and outside your home for the first year, and for 10 years, you have an insurance-backed structural warranty that covers all structural components as well as soil subsidence.
