Festival of Homes in Cedar City, A Brief History
The Cedar City Festival of Homes has been organized by the Iron County Home Builders Association since 1994. You might have called it the Iron County Parade of Homes but because it’s in Cedar City, known as Festival City USA, we call it the Festival of Homes.
The Iron County Home Builders Association is also part of the Home Builders Association of Utah and the National Association of Home Builders (Choice Builders is proud to be a member of all three associations). These organizations expect their members to practice high ethical standards, exhibit fair and honest business practices, and use the best products, services, and trade technologies. Entries accepted into the Festival of Homes must meet those standards and display superior building craftsmanship.
The Festival of Homes in Cedar City has gained regional support with visitors who come from Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, and California. Our local friends and neighbors also show great support by visiting our entries. Many people who visit the Festival are thinking about moving here, and the show gives them a taste of what it would be like to live here.
Building a Home in Cedar City
We spend much of our lives pursuing dreams for family, careers, education, living, and eventually retirement. Iron County offers a high-quality life, with beautiful surroundings and a safe environment filled with a community of people who want to enjoy day-to-day living with their friends and family.
Known as "Festival City U.S.A.” because of a plethora of events including music festivals, downtown parades, the Tony Award-winning Utah Shakespeare Theater Festival, and of course, the Festival of Homes. Cedar City is a center for tourism, commercial development, education, and the arts in southwestern Utah.
Cedar City is a sanctuary of cool mountain air and world-class cultural attractions in astonishing proximity to the extensive outdoor adventure of Southwest Utah’s famous Mighty Five national parks – Arches, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, and Zion National Park. It’s easy to take a scenic drive with plenty of overlooks to fill your senses and trails to get you out into the sanctuary of Mother Nature.
There are great places to hunt, fish, camp, and hike. If you like to ride ATVs, snowmobiles, mountain or road bikes, tour on motorcycles, play golf, downhill ski or snowboard, or, go boating, and ride horses or participate in other outdoor activities -- it's all here in your backyard. Plus, we have great public schools and are fortunate to have the highly-rated Southern Utah University with its championship collegiate division-1 sports programs.
Utah’s highest ski area, Brian Head Resort, is only 30 minutes from Cedar City and has over 255 hectares with two, lift-served tubing hills and an entire mountain dedicated to learning skiing and snowboarding. In the summertime, the resort transforms into a mountain biking mecca with some of the best lift-served trails in the state.

ENERGY STAR certified homes at the Festival of Homes
Come visit the Portico home we entered in the Cedar City Festival of Homes. You’ll see new energy-efficient technologies and the ways we enhance living through quality craftsmanship. All the homes we build use methods and materials that will save you money on utilities every month.
New kitchen and household appliances have improved dramatically and have higher than ever energy efficiency ratings. New furnaces and air conditioners will be much less expensive to operate. With these savings, you can expand your ideas and upgrade other areas in your home.
"After purchasing my Eco Friendly "Energy Star Certified" home from Choice builders earlier this year, quite frankly I was a bit skeptical about the claims being made to save on monthly utility costs. Upon receiving my first electric bill in April I thought the utility company made a mistake. May was an unusually warm month here in Cedar City so as a test I left several appliances turned on longer than normal and ran the air conditioner at a much lower temperature than usual. My electric bill for May was 2/3 less than my other home for the same time period. As an added benefit – since this home is so well sealed – there is very little dusting required and dealing with allergies is less problematic."

DON’T TRUST YOUR DREAMS TO JUST ANYONE.
You should feel confident and excited during your home-building process. After all, the builder you choose could mean the difference between a project that's done right, on time, and on budget and one that costs too much, takes too long, and is fraught with quality problems.
But with every builder claiming to be qualified, how can you be sure you’re picking the right one?
Download What You Need to Know Before Hiring a Home Builder, written by Choice Builders’ owner, Roger Thomas. This guide will help you choose a builder who is right for you.
In it, you'll find answers to questions like:
- How do I make sure a contractor can build to my budget?
